The
Hudson
Falls Police Department has upgraded their weapons from
standard issue shotguns to the AR-15 assault rifle.

A-3 Assault Rifle
The
rifles are much more accurate than the traditional shotgun and
they are equipped with what is referred to
as soft point rounds, meaning they expand quickly on impact.
Assault rifles offer several advantages. With
a range of 300 yards, they are vastly better than the standard
Glock handgun officers carry, which have a range of 25 to 50
yards. Officers completed an intense training program
conducted by Instructor Jeff Peek which included classroom,
hands on and scenario instruction. Each officer then had to
qualify with the weapon.

Deputy Chief Randy Diamond qualifies with the AR-15.
The guidelines, training and policies and
procedures took months to develop. Officers also trained with
mock AR15 rifles at the Hudson Falls High School. The training
was geared towards having an armed subject inside the school,
which has taken place numerous times in real life situations,
throughout schools across the United States.
