A view of the
Great Sacandaga Lake in Saratoga County.
Most of the leaves have now fallen after this past week's
rainfall.
The Simpson's were on
display this past Saturday at Sunnyside Farms in Saratoga as
many people loaded wagons with their hand picked pumpkins and
apple cider. The characters were made with colored hay and set
up in various positions.
A few months back we had a
trivia photo of the week. Since that time we have received
numerous requests for more trivia photos which were taken from
someplace in the Village. Here is one (above) that may be easy
for some - more clues to follow.

A Boeing B-17 Flying
Fortress named "Nine O Nine," (top photo) and a Consolidated
B-24 Liberator called "Witchcraft" (Bottom photo) both take
flight Thursday afternoon at the Warren County Airport just
ahead of a line of powerful thunderstorms. The historic
bombers are on display through Friday.
On day two of the 2007
Adirondack Balloon Festival some specialty balloons
flew including the "Farm" balloon (shown above). Day two
was held at the Warren County airport and is scheduled to run
through Sunday.

Balloon Festival. The event began on Thursday at
Crandall Park in nearby Glens Falls and is scheduled to run
through Sunday.

Clint Bowyer exits
pit road after completing his final pit stop this past Sunday
in Loudon, New Hampshire. Bowyer went on to win his first
Nextel Cup career race after starting from the pole position.

This hot air balloon was
spotted just outside the Village flying east from Kingsbury
towards Hartford this past Thursday. Our area is gearing up
for the
Adirondack Balloon Festival which begins September 20th.

A
Great Blue Heron looks to be waving and posing for a photo
this past week off the Tow Path Road in the Town of Kingsbury.

A dragonfly can be seen resting on a water lily at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens located on the Duke University in Durham, NC this past week. The area was in the middle of a record breaking heat wave and temperatures on this day reached 104 degrees.
We received requests for flower photos to be posted. A group of "Black eyed Susan's" are seen growing near the Feeder Canal off Maple Street. The Black-Eyed Susan is probably the most common of all American wildflowers.
A young "bull-rider" gets bucked off just shy of the 8 second mark during a humid August afternoon this past week. She went on to win the second round semi finals as she held on for two 12 second rides.

A partial rainbow emerged after a powerful thunderstorm passed through the Saratoga area this past week.

A female Ruby Throated hummingbird lands at a feeder this past week. The wings of this hummingbird can beat (on average) 52 beats per second and can accelerate to speeds as fast as 63 mph.

This Muscovy Duck turned some heads this past week at nearby Crandall Park, as people tried to figure out what is was. We checked with local wildlife expert Bob Henke who said that around here, Muscovy Ducks are not wildlife. "They are raised in captivity throughout the world but they are native the Amazon jungle. They are interesting because they do not have oil glands so they will become soaked and sink if they stay in the water too long."
Hudson Falls Police along with fire officials are investigating this fire which broke out just after 11 pm on 5/1/07. Click here for story.

At least eight double crested cormorants are seen as they soak up the sun on a flooded section of the Hudson River. There were at least ten more of the birds just out of camera view. Double crested cormorants can often be seen riding low on the surface, flying with oddly bent necks, or resting with wings spread.


The New York State Police had a Harley Davidson motorcycle and the new Dodge Charger on display at the 2007 Traffic Safety Conference in Saratoga Springs this past week.

A Great Blue Heron hunts for food this past week in a swampy area adjacent to the Hudson River.



If you were on the Fenimore Bridge this past Saturday, you may have seen this bald eagle as it watched over the Hudson River. A closer look showed that this eagle has a blue colored band on it's right leg indicating that it was "banded" as a young eaglet somewhere in New York State.

A tufted titmouse watches the recent snowfall near the Feeder Canal. We continue to receive daily requests for more "bird and animal" pictures for the photo of the week. Another popular request is "weather" photos for our area. Stay tuned !

The Hudson Falls Tigers wrestling team dominated a Class C tournament held at the High School. The Tigers had eight wrestlers in the finals and won three third place finishes

Unit 154, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, is our Department's newest Patrol vehicle.
Two Blackhawk helicopters from the 3rd-142nd Army aviation unit out of Albany International Airport, perform a "touch and go" at the Warren County airport on Saturday (1/20/07). The choppers then continued on to the Adirondack Park area for a training mission.

An ice storm hit our area Monday (1/15/07) causing ice to build up on anything not moving. This old pick-up truck, marked "for sale", was covered with ice as it sits in a driveway on Pine Street.

A northern harrier (also known as the marsh hawk) scans this field for dinner on County Route 43 in Kingsbury. The record breaking January warmth has made it easier for these raptors to locate food. This harrier snatched up at least four field mice in 1/2 hour.

Lincoln Street is seen (looking towards Pearl Street) on December 30th. This was the first measurable snowfall in our area this year. The Village got approximately 1/2 inch of snow followed by freezing rain on New Years Eve.

This house on River Road in the Town of Moreau is the most decorated house we have seen this year. People continue to line up along the roadway to get a look at this massive display of lights which includes Christmas music playing.

Santa is "rescued" by the fire department's ladder truck from a rooftop across from Juckett Park this past Saturday. Santa then visited with children in the gazebo in the park and gave out presents.

Hawk Eye?
This red winged blackbird flew in silent to surprise this Cooper's Hawk on River Street near the trash plant. The hawk finally flew off after about 5 minutes of being pestered.


Former President Bill Clinton visited the area Monday (11/06/06) for a political rally at the Warren County airport.
