Candidates for the position of police officer in the Village
of Hudson Falls are taken from the Washington County Civil
Service list for police officers (Washington County has a
separate test for the Sheriff’s Department). Interested
parties may sign up for the exam through the Washington County
Department of Personnel at 383 Broadway, Fort Edward, New
York. Please contact the Civil Service Department for
information regarding exam dates as well as residency
requirements. The Hudson Falls Police Department accepts
lateral transfers
from full-time New York State certified police officers only.
When an opening becomes available, the Chief of Police checks
applications against the current civil service list and
schedules interviews with prospective candidates.
A candidate who is chosen for further processing must undergo
a physical agility test as well as a battery of physical and
psychological exams prior to consideration for hiring. If a
candidate is selected for hire and has met all prerequisite
testing, he/she must attend and successfully complete training
at the
Zone 5 Law Enforcement
Academy
in Schenectady, New York. The Zone 5 Academy is an intensive
24 week school which covers areas of New York State law
enforcement. Classes cover topics including, but not limited
to Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law of New York State,
firearms training, defensive tactics and the emergency vehicle
operator’s course (EVOC) as well as daily physical
fitness training.
Upon successful completion of the academy, new officers must
satisfactorily complete further training with a certified
field training officer and he/she will remain on probation
for the first year of service to the department. For
information regarding testing for Washington County police
agencies, please contact the Department of Personnel at (518)
746-2250.
Applications for employment may be obtained at the Hudson
Falls Village Hall at 218 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY
12839. Applications received when the department is not
actively hiring will be held for a period determined by the
Village.
